Umm Al Quwain National Museum



Umm Al Quwain is one of the smallest emirates in the UAE but it has a very rich history and what’s a better place to experience that history other than the Umm Al Quwain National Museum. The Umm Al Quwain National Museum is located on Al Lubna Road, Umm Al Quwain.

History of the Museum

The Umm Al Quwain National Museum is built inside a fort that once was home to the emirate’s ruling family. The Umm Al Quwain National Museum is home to many artifacts that were unearthed at Ed Dur which is one of the largest archaeological sites in the United Arab Emirates and is listed as one of the most important lost cities of Arabia.

The Umm Al Quwain National Museum is located in a place called Madeena Al Qadeema which means the old city in Arabic and the city has some buildings that are over 150 years old!

The Umm Al Quwain Fort was known as Al Ali Fort, and was established in 1786 by Sheikh Rashid Bin Majid Al Mualla, founder of the Al Mualla ruling dynasty. The fort continued as the home of the ruling family and the centre of government in the emirate for a very long time till the 1960s then it was converted into a police station. It was made a museum and opened to the public in 2000, following the directives of Sheikh Rashid Bin Ahmed Al Mualla, member of the supreme council of the UAE, and Ruler of Umm Al Quwain.

Exhibits

You might be wondering, what is there to see in such a historic museum? There is The Royal Family Heritages Section which is considered the core of the museum, as it concentrates on the Royal Family Heritages; which represents indivisible part of Umm Al Quwain citizen`s history. There is also the documentary film room where there is a small corner of the photos and pictures showing Umm Al Quwain history.

There’s also the traditional market Attar, replace fabrics, Mahloa and coffee shop. Since Umm Al Quwain is a coastal city, there is the sea equipment room which features a group of ships` models which were used in fishing or diving for pearls and there are also some diving equipment.

Since it was the home of the rulers, there are the Sheikh and Sheikhah rooms which is very well kept and shows how the royal family lived.

In conclusion, the Umm Al Quwain National Museum is a breath-taking building with a lot of history and has a lot of archaeological artifacts. Its rich history is a great reason for you to visit it at least once and see how the royalty lived during the eighteenth century.



Ticket Prices and Working Hours

Tickets are priced fairly as adults can enter and explore the museum for 4 AED and children can enter for free!

The Umm Al Quwain National Museum is open everyday from 08:00 AM to 02:00 PM except on Fridays when it opens at 05:00 PM to 08:00 PM.
